Embassy Café is house music laid bare - rough ready and romantic. It’s the early ‘90s house record Australia never had - an antipodean take on classic albums such as Dream 2 Science and Amnesia. The album was recorded live with minimal overdubs in a rundown warehouse art space in West Melbourne in 2013. These raw cassette-tape demos capture the first moments of a collaborative friendship between Oscar Key Sung and Andras that continues to this day. In the spirit of outsider music production Embassy Café is full of the kind of mistakes noises and distortions that characterize early house records as well as the broader DIY aesthetic of private press outsiders like Bob Chance and Gary Wilson. With the simple joy of naive discovery Embassy Café finds itself balancing precariously between the past and present - a product of the ‘90s produced in the ‘10s now available in the ‘20s.
