"Kool Menthol. That's the name redolent of night and nicotine from Il Est Vilaine's new EP featuring 4 tracks that send shivers down the spine and warm the body. The eponymous single unfolds like an infectious groove worthy of an 80s Tokyo nightclub. Moreover it's still the illustrator Apollo Thomas who signs the group's artworks tinting their universe with an irresistible Japanese touch. Orientalism? Not entirely as evidenced by ""Revenge"" which sounds more like the soundtrack of an electric western and ""Quetzacoatl"" falsely tropical incantatory and metallic rising like a Raëlian mantra in the after-hours. ""Ramassama"" on the other hand feels like a chase scene from an Italian horror film with a slightly dazed Dario Argento. In short the two rascals from Il Est Vilaine reaffirm their stamp of cowboy clubbers with this disco-like EP where there always remains a strong rock undertone."
