MAD DOG first release on Bobby Would’s new Quality Music label and sudden outside contender for ALBUM OF THE YEAR: a split between JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE, RINGO & RICHARD (aka Ricoletto from East Germany’s Pisse) and Israel's VICTOR.

Kicking off with a David Attenborough-sampling tribute to chimp-on-chimp violence, you know immediately that you’re in good hands: JPGRR has turned out a side of relentlessly hooky, monochord, repetitive, weirdly hypnotic synth/droog/space-punk splatter that feels like the missing link between Heavy Metal and Do You Want New Wave Or Do You Want The Soft Pink Truth?. Every tune is a banger. Not to be outdone, Israel’s Victor - following on from a tape for Lumpy Records - offers up a moodier but similarly volatile pestling of garage-punk and day-release scum-dance, at times sounding like Raspberry Bulbs trapped in the fishtank with Pet Shop Boys, reverb-slathered ghost-rider vocals and charred death-surf riffage served over a bed of rudimentary drum-machine loops and one-finger keyboard belch.

Space invaders are smoking crack!
