Black vinyl! Standard cover! On his third album ,Sleepwalking" the New Zealand composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer JONATHAN BREE weaves strongly orchestrated elements - lush strings, horns, celeste and soprano choirs - with chamber pop from a bygone era (LEE HAZLEWOOD & NANCY SINATRA) with his distinctive baritone singing. The songs immerse themselves in and out of the avant-garde in a decidedly modern way, including the hit ,You're So Cool", whose mask video has over 3.5 million views on YouTube and was voted music video of the year 2017 by New York's Time Out magazine. ,You're So Cool" shows his mysterious band in a mask outfit, which JONATHAN has refined in recent years with a white full body suit, a face mask (with cheekbones!) and a bowl wig. A plucked cello, a minimal bass-line and a drum pattern are JONATHAN's trademarks that run through the whole album. With ,Sleepwalking" JONATHAN BREE looks towards the 60s Lounge, Exotica and French Pop. There are several duets on the album, especially with the New Zealand musician PRINCESS CHELSEA (in ,Static" and ,Plucking Petals"), with whom JONATHAN has worked together for many years. Catalan musician CLARA VINALS is a guest on the single ,Say You Love Me Too", which has a distinct SERGE GAINSBOURG style, with whispered, intimate vocals that sit over a distinctive bass line and a drum pattern that drives the song. A self-confessed workaholic and social recluse, JONATHAN spends his days (and nights) in a shabby home office, trying to get his record label, Lil' Chief Records (Home of PRINCESS CHELSEA, RUBY SUNS and a..) while producing albums for artists like PRINCESS CHELSEA, performing in viral music videos for duets about smoking ("Cigarette Duet") and finding time to record his own material and shoot his mask videos. And sometimes he even sleeps. But only sometimes.
